Job

The Department of English Language and Literatures at the University of British Columbia seeks to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor in media studies. Comics in Circuit is an exhibition currently on display at the Rare Book School, University of Virginia. It will run until the 1st May 2019. Link (English, WG)

The exhibit, “Racism, Representation, and Resistance in Children’s Literature”, takes place inside Smathers Library, at the University of Florida, and will run until the 5th October. Link (English, WG)

The exhibition, Graphic Scenes: (Re)Visionary Comic Book Art, is currently on show at Komechak Gallery at Benedictine University.  It features art from Mister X by Dean Motter, from Hellboy by Mike Mignola, and from Criminal by Sean Phillips. Link (English, WG)

The inaugural issue of VÉRITÉ, a 240-page comics anthology from Comix India and Studio Ekonte in Mumbai, has been published. Positioning itself as an Indian gekiga magazine, VÉRITÉ is distinguished by its mixed content of new comics mainly from India and classic short-form literary manga from Japan. The Japanese contributors include Tsuge Tadao, Katsumata Susumu, Yamamatsu Yukichi, and Tsuneyama Yoji. Link (07/09/2018, ST)

Osvaldo Oyola has published an overview of his experiences at the first annual Comics Studies Society Conference, Mind the Gaps, which took place in Urbana-Champaign in August. Link (English, WG)

There is a called for papers for Comics on the Couch, a special themed issue of the journal, American Imago. 300 word abstracts are due by the 15th December. Link (English, WG)

There is a call for proposals for ICAF 2019, which takes place between the 4th and 6th April 2019 at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. Abstracts are due by the 15th October 2018. Link (English, WG)

The first ICAF bibliography of recent comics scholarship is now available on the ICAF website in PDF format. This inaugural list covers roughly the period from January 2017 to June 2018. Link (English, WG)

On the 1st September, the inauguration of Barreiro Ilustra Bd opened. The event takes place in Barreiro, and consists of an exhibition that can be visited until 14th October. Free entrance. Link (Portuguese, RR)
