The office of the Mexican Secretary for Culture seeks applications for the Premio Nacional de Novela Gráfica Joven, part of the Tierra Adentro literary prizes. Link (FGG, Spanish)

The 9th edition of the independent comics gathering FANZINORAMA, took place in Tlalpan, Mexico City, from the 2nd to the 3rd December. Link (FGG, Spanish)

The 15th International Encounter on Cartooning and Comics (EICH) took place during the Guadalajara International Book Fair.  Within this event, La Catrina prize was awarded to Cuban-born Mexican cartoonist Boligán. Boligan’s work is featured in the exhibit “Metáforas de un Trazo,” on view at Ex Convento del Carmen in Jalisco until January 8th, 2017. The Museo de la Caricatura y la Historieta (Mucahi) celebrated its 16th anniversary with a roundtable of comics creators at the Museo de Arte Popular in Mexico City. Link (05/12/16, FGG, Spanish)

The roundtable “Periodismo en historieta,” featuring graphic novel creators Augusto Mora (A dónde nos llevan), Andalusia Knoll Soloff and Xavier Corro (Vivos se los llevaron), and Octavio Jiménez (Me estaban entrenando como un pinche sicario), took place on December 11 as part of the Brigada Para Leer en Libertad’s Book Fair at La Alameda. The exhibit SIN PALABRAS, featuring work by Cuban-born Mexican cartoonist Boligan, and Spanish cartoonist “El Roto,” closed on December 11 at the Castillo de Santa Catalina de Cádiz, and will be on view in La Casa de la Provincia in Seville, Spain, until January 15th. Link (16/12/16, FGG, Spanish)

There is a call for papers for the 2017 Comics & Medicine Conference, which takes place in the Seattle Public Library Central Branch and the University of Washington, between the 15th and 17th June 2017. Deadline for proposals is the 30th January. Link (English, WG)

Until the 5th February, the association Chili con Carne is accepting original comic strips to its contest ‘Toma lá 500 paus e faz uma BD” (Take 500 euros and make a comic strip). The prize is the publication of the comic strip and 500 euros. Link (RR, Portuguese)

A new research network, PACE (Plataforma Académica sobre el Cómic en Español), has been created to support and give visibility to academic research on Spanish comics. It is an initiative of the Centre de Recherche sur les littératures et la sociopoétique (CELIS) from the Université Clermont Auvergne (France) and the Asociación Cultural Tebeosfera (Spain).
